FARM WRENCH #43 WE have acquired a wonderful group of antique wrenches and other old tools that were part of a local man's amazing collection. This gem is a prime example of what we found - an open-end wrench for John Deere farm equipment sold in Kansas City. We have tagged it as No. 43 in our inventory at the Pocono antiques mall. The tool is 7½ inches long and is meant to fit one-inch and three-quarter-inch square nuts. It still has most of its original green paint intact. MAKER/MARKINGS: Raised lettering says DEERE MANSUR CO. on one side. The other side is embossed with "A522." AGE/PATENT: Alvah Mansur and John Deere's son, Charles, established the Kansas City firm of Deere, Mansur & Co. in 1869 as the first semi-independent distributor of Deere products. It was the forerunner of JD's current sales branches and sales regions. This wrench dates from the earliest days. CONDITION: Excellent, with great old patina and very little wear! Domestic postage adds $4.50. Multiple wrenches, while heavy, can be combined in a flat-rate Priority Mail box and sent for just $8.50. Sorry, no international sales. Pennsylvania residents, please add 6 percent sales tax. All photos and descriptive text copyright 2007 by M.J. Schuon. Use in whole or in part by any other individual is strictly prohibited.
